About IESRE

The Institute for Earth Science Research and Education (IESRE) is a non-profit corporation registered under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and qualified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) corporation effective in 2003. IESRE's purpose is to build worldwide partnerships among scientists, teachers, and students that advance knowledge and learning about Earth and its dynamic systems. Its mission includes:

  1. Research on Earth systems and the environment.
  2. Development of activities and materials to support participation by educational institutions, teachers, students, and others in research and education activities of the Institute, consistent with the scientific findings that underlie our current understanding of natural and anthropogenic influences on Earth systems and the environment, and appropriate responses to those influences.
  3. Dissemination of research and educational results to the scientific community and the public via publication in scientific journals and online, participation in scientific and educational conferences, seminars, and workshops, and other appropriate means.
  4. Development of scientific instrumentation, research protocols, and software in furtherance of the previous and related purposes.

This website presents and supports work done by IESRE. Much of this work has been supported by funding from The National Science Foundation, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Toyota USA Foundation. Opinions and information presented as factual are the responsibility of Dr. Brooks, and have not necessarily been approved by these funding sources. This website contains many applications relevant to IESRE's work. Although I have tried hard to make sure the calculations in these applications are accurate — this is important if only because I often use them myself — their performance is not guaranteed, and you use them entirely at your own risk. You are free to use the information on this site without restriction for personal and educational purposes, and you can request copies of entire sections of this site if you have a legitimate reason for doing so. Use for any commercial purpose is prohibited unless you receive specific written permission from IESRE. When you use content from this site, please include an appropriate citation that includes my name and the specific URL for the content you are using. For example:

Legal Stuff

Return Policy. Equipment and software is nonreturnable once shipped or provided to the customer, subject only to the warranty stated below or prior agreement in writing between IESRE and the purchaser. Return policies for equipment provided on loan as part of any research project supported by IESRE will be separately negotiated with IESRE as needed.

Warranty. IESRE warrants all merchandise against defects in material or workmanship for a period of 90 days from the original purchase date, unless otherwise stated in writing by IESRE. Merchandise returned to IESRE pursuant to this warranty must be returned prepaid. If IESRE receives the merchandise considered to be defective within this warranty period and if the product is determined to be defective, IESRE will, at its sole option and discretion, repair or replace the merchandise. This is your only and exclusive remedy and constitutes IESRE's entire liability arising out of this warranty. IESRE's limited warranty is void if the damage or defect has resulted from improper customer assembly, use, or installation; failure by customer to follow instructions; product modification; negligent or improper operation; accident, abuse, or misapplication. IESRE will transfer to the customer whatever transferable warranties and indemnities IESRE receives from the manufacturer. Any claims arising from such manufacturer's warranties shall be the sole responsibility of the manufacturer and not of IESRE.

No Other Warranties. The limited warranty above is exclusive and in lieu of all other conditions and warranties for all equipment and software. ions or warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement of the products.

Disclaimer. IESRE shall not be liable for any incidental, special or consequential damages for breach of any warranty, express or implied, arising either directly or indirectly from IESRE's sale, loan, or provision of equipment or software, including any failure to deliver equipment, or arising out of any user's installation, use, re-use, alteration, or construction, whether proper or improper, of the equipment or software, separately or in combination with other equipment or software, or from any other cause.

IESRE adheres strictly to proactive nondiscrimination policies in all its activities and we require any individual or entity working with us also to comply with these policies. In particular, our policies include meeting the provisions of: David Brooks is the officer designated by IESRE to respond to all issues relevant to these antidiscrimination requirements and policies. IESRE has no employees, so it does not need written nondiscrimination policies that would apply to employees.
